Some Things You Might Forget On Moving Day, But Shouldn’t

Even if you’ve chosen Art of Living movers near stress-free pack and unpack moving services, there are still some details you will likely be doing yourself. While we hate to add to your moving day to-do list, there are some things you absolutely don’t want to forget.

Keep utilities on

One of the biggest mistakes people make on moving day is turning off the utilities at their old place as they turn them on in their new ones. You and the movers will both need light, power, and water during your move, at both homes. While we will clean up after ourselves, there’s a really good chance that you’ll be creating your own trash, so be sure to arrange one more trash pickup.

Pack personal items

There are some items you should always move. These include jewelry, important paperwork, small electronics, propane tanks, paint, and anything liquid. You can save money on your move by moving the pictures on the wall, lamps, and your larger electronics.

Reserve parking

Depending on whether you’re moving locally or long-distance, the movers will show up with a truck that takes anywhere from three to five parking spaces (including the space needed to pull in and out). If you don’t have a driveway big enough to accommodate, you might need to reserve space throughout your city. They will provide you with signs to keep people from parking in those spaces. If the truck has to park several yards from your home, there may be additional charges.

Clear some space

Clear the area around the door. It’s best if the movers have a clear path through the house and to the truck.

Leave cleaning supplies behind

Unless you’re hiring someone to clean your home after you move out, remember to leave your vacuum, broom, and your cleaning supplies at your old home.
